You will need to make a few changes to the motherboard bios. We need support for six cards and the PCIe slots to run Gen2. The following video walks you through that process. I also recommend disabling onboard video on the motherboard. How to do that is also outlined in this video. Once you have completed the changes to the motherboard bios settings you can restart and confirm everything still works.
Once that is confirmed, shut down and add in the remaining five GPUs. Restart and confirm in your device manager that you have six cards active. Most people use MSI Afterburner as their overclock manager. To save power, you can underclock the GPU to use less energy. The real power comes in overclocking the memory on the GPU. If you want the max output from your GPUs you will have to modify the bios of your cards. This likely voids the warranty so be aware of that.
The bios mod is a simple change, but it has to be done just right. Depending on your card, you may have different memory types and the bios mod is specific to the memory type of your card. There are a lot of tutorials on how to modify the bios so I will include a video on that below. What you want to make sure and do is keep track of the bios for each card. I labeled my GPUs and made sure the stock and modified bios files stay in order.
If you ever need to flash the bios back to stock on any of your GPUs you want to make sure you use the stock file you saved before modding the bios. Each bios rom is unique to the card because of the unique identifier of the card. You will need to set up an Ethereum Wallet that the mining pool will pay into. I recommend you set up a new email address that nobody knows about. The reason being is that if someone accessed your email address, they could get access to your wallet with the right information.
In the next section, you will set up that wallet. It is very important that you follow the instructions on how to secure your wallet info. Your public wallet ID is not that important to protect as it is public information once you join a pool. It brings attention to your wallet. I recommend printing a paper wallet to keep somewhere safe.
The paper wallet will have your private key on it which is what gets you access to manage that wallet. You can also invest in a hardware wallet. I recommend the Ledger Nano S. A hardware wallet can hold value offline. It has a public wallet ID that you can use to be paid to by the pool you mine for. It is safe because nobody can access it without having the physical wallet and the code to get into it.
If you are not going to use a hardware wallet, for now, go to MyEtherWallet and set up a wallet. The website does a good job of walking you through the process to help you keep your info safe. As the website states, you do not want to ever click a link that takes you to their website. Simply type in myetherwallet. Once your rig is complete, you need to join a mining pool to mine Ethereum.
I joined Nanopool. They have pools for a variety of different cryptocurrencies but so far I have only mined Ethereum. Go to the Nanopool website and click Quick Start for Ethereum. That will walk you through what you need to do to get started. The Nanopool website will generate two files that you will replace in your Claymore Miner folder.
Nanopool asks for an email address so take my advice from above and use an email address nobody knows about. Once you have replaced the files downloaded from Nanopool into Claymore Miner you are ready to mine. You will need to monitor the energy consumption of your rig. This is why I listed the Power Consumption Meter as part of the build.
If you live somewhere where electricity is expensive, your profit margin will be thin. You can use the zip ties to hang your GPUs on the horizontal aluminum lengths at the top of the frame. On your computer download the Ethereum mining software you want to use and add it to your USB stick.
Plug the USB stick into the USB drive on the motherboard and plug the ethernet cable into the ethernet cable socket on the motherboard. Plug the monitor in and connect it to the mother board too. Turn the power supply on and use your power switch to turn the motherboard on. If you connected everything correctly, the GPU fans should start to spin, and you should see the software start to run on the monitor.
How long it takes to mine an Ethereum block will depend on the number and power of your GPU units. All you need to do now is sit back, relax, and wait for your money to roll in! Unfortunately, the above guide is just the basics. Your mining rig will probably look pretty ugly at this point. Instead of using the industrial-looking natural aluminum lengths, you could invest a little more and get some fancy colored ones.
Also, black angled aluminum lengths are pretty common — and of course, black goes with anything! GPUs often have coloured on them and look pretty cool themselves. You could match the color of your framework to the color of the detailing on the GPU itself.
Using vertical lime green aluminum lengths and black horizontal pieces would certainly give your Ethereum mining rig a stylish finish! One option to make your mining rig look great is to add sheets of some material to enclose the entire unit.
Be careful when doing this, however. In the above example, we designed our mining rig to be as functional as possible with as little work. If you decide to add sheets to enclose the unit, you are restricting airflow. This is important since running a GPU hours a day will get very hot! If you do want to enclose your cryptocurrency mining rig, make sure you add at least one fan to get rid of all that hot air.
Alternatively, you could go for some see-through or semi-see- through material such as Perspex. You can then decorate the outside of the rig by using paints or by adding stickers of your favorite crypto projects. In the above example, I used zip ties to hang the GPUs. This was to make it very quick and easy to replace GPUs if they burn out or you just want to upgrade them. If the appearance of your Ethereum mining rig is really important to you, you could use something a little more permanent.
You could try drilling a hole in the mining rig frame and attaching a bracket to hang the GPUs off. This will keep everything inside the frame itself and make the whole thing look that little bit more professional. You can go wild with lights. Just look at some custom high-end gaming PCs for inspiration. Source: masterwork. Another way to make your Ethereum miner look great is to add a monitor to the unit itself.
You can then choose to encase the whole thing or leave it open. Adding a monitor to your GPU mining rig will not only make it look cool but it will also mean you can use it in a smaller area of your home or office! First, you should shop around for the best price energy provider you can. You might think that the most expensive part of mining cryptocurrency is the price of the parts you use to build your mining rig. Electricity will seriously eat into your profits. Always go with the cheapest provider. When it comes to making a profit, many people choose to trade Ethereum.

That said, many users believe that Coinbase is one of the simpler exchanges on the current market. The exchange platform i. Binance acts as a middleman - it connects you your offer or request with that other person the seller or the buyer. When considering cryptocurrency exchange rankings, though, both of these types of businesses exchanges and brokerages are usually just thrown under the umbrella term - exchange. Coinbase or Kraken , there are other very well-known industry leaders that are located all over the world. While there are many reasons for why an exchange would prefer to be based in one location over another, most of them boil down to business intricacies, and usually have no effect on the user of the platform.

Hello, I am quite enthusiastic about this project, I gathered to armir my first rig, but what happened is that after buying everything, a vendendor told me that I no longer had cards and only buy a rx 8gb.
Dan June 13, am. Is there a way to have the rig automatically reboot after not responding, I left my house this morning and realized it was down. But if it is running, you can reboot it by incrementing the counter in the remote configuration file.

David July 7, am. Thank you very much for your information. In fact in the process of putting together my first rig so this information is very helpful. Unfortunately, I think I may have been mislead in choosing a motherboard. Do you think I should take it back or should I give it a go and see if I can get it going?
Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Could get anything else. All sold out. Rolf July 13, am. David July 15, pm. Rolf July 17, pm. Usually not being able to boot is because there are not enough PCIe resources for the sixth card. Hello, it is possible to have exactly all the settings in the motherboard BIOS you have to run 6 GPU because after several days of testing I still have not arrived, some screens would be appreciated, Thank you for sharing, greetings.
Patrick August 5, pm. Help greatly appreciated…. November 17, pm. Super frustrating. The bios has very little options to tweak the PCIe cofiguration. Any thoughts? Time for a new MOBO? Gary November 17, pm. In the tutorial I see that Rolf used a Asrock MoBo, not sure how much that plays into the scenero, but you might ask if that has any influence on your results. I have already paid and upgraded my breakers, wiring and outlets to accommodate.
Trust that I have installed in uefi only mode, set above 4g decoding enabled, tried pci set to Gen1, Gen2, and Auto, I disabled onboard graphics, audio, VM support, etc! I also removed the custom gpu bios I modded on 6 of the RX, back to stock bios as I was having issues installing drivers on more than 1 card. Please help I will pay good coin!
Greenville, SC. Chris August 22, am. This is great! Thanks for sharing. Thanks in advance! Rolf August 28, pm. Gary August 27, pm. Rolf, Ive been reading every build out and set up trying to take in everybit of the main different aspects of making a succeful miners minig operation work as effeciently and trouble free as possible. Im about to chew threw the bit to get me a mining rig up and going, but. Im going to start out with buying everything listed above except the GPU cards, im only going to buy one Gpu and get it up and running for the moment, once ive been able to save up enough ill add the other 5 gpus one at a time.
Can you see anything wrong in starting out with what i can afford to start out with and adding a GPU every weeks until i have all 6 heads up and mining? Anything i need to beware of thats going to cause me big problems doing it that way?
Thanks for all your knowledge, i look forward to reading every article that you publish. I think that sounds like a great way to start. If you are going to start that way you can also hold off on buying a case, or build your own out of wood, like I did at first.
